About Velocity & Acceleration

Velocity

Velocity is the rate of change of position with respect to time. It is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction. Average velocity is calculated as: v = Δd / Δt (change in distance over change in time).

Acceleration

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with respect to time. It indicates how quickly an object's velocity is changing. Acceleration is calculated as: a = Δv / Δt (change in velocity over change in time).

Equations of Motion

  • v = vi + at - Final velocity
  • d = vit + ½at² - Distance with constant acceleration
  • v² = vi² + 2ad - Final velocity without time
  • d = (vi + vf)t / 2 - Distance from average velocity

Units

  • Velocity: m/s (meters per second), km/h (kilometers per hour), mph (miles per hour)
  • Acceleration: m/s² (meters per second squared)
  • Distance: m (meters), km (kilometers), ft (feet), mi (miles)
  • Time: s (seconds), min (minutes), h (hours)
